What a Difference a Year Makes!
Meet Olivia Gray, a rising 7' grader, who attends our year-round after-school enrichment and summer STEAM programs. At the beginning of the school year, she was struggling to find her place in her class, connect with her teacher, and keep up with her schoolwork. Additionally, Olivia was failing her classes and facing possible expulsion for frequent tantrums and behavioral issues. Her mother, hearing about our organization, reached out to our Program Director, Felicia Akuamoah, seeking urgent help with homework and social-emotional support.
As a current educator, understanding the intricacies of the school system and the impending further decline in Olivia's behavior and academic performance, and with her mother's approval, Ms. Felicia intervened to get Olivia the help needed. This led to Olivia's enrollment in our after-school program, providing her with access to our caring and trained staff who understood her needs and took a whole-child approach in addressing the behavioral and academic performance gaps.
Olivia was able to receive personalized one-on-one homework and tutoring support, express her feelings in a safe and nurturing environment, and learn how to advocate for herself in the classroom. Since enrolling in our program, her grades have steadily improved, tantrums have ceased, and she now stands as a leader among her peers.
She is caring, polite, and very helpful. Olivia is also thriving and continues to excel daily! Her mother reported that Olivia's behavior and academic performance have significantly improved (like night and day, and she got a mix of A's and B's on her final report card. Olivia is currently enrolled in our summer STEAM program as one of our scholars and has begun mapping out her five-year plan, which includes attending college.
