Meet Zion Williams
There is no shortage of personality when Zion Williams is around. His polite mannerisms, perspectives on the world around him, and ability to converse with people decades beyond him make him irresistibly engaging and perhaps one of the most interesting second graders on the planet. Zion joined Bridges After School in August 2025, following his parents' search for a program that aligned with their values and expectations. When asked why Bridges was chosen, his mom, Desiree Williams, had this to say: "Zion is a great student and does well in school. He has been part of the after-school program at his school for a few years, but we started noticing changes in his behavior. He began exhibiting some behaviors that we consider unacceptable in our household. We knew that Bridges would be a positive environment for him to be in. We wanted him here."
Zion is an honor student with great self-discipline, so academic assistance was not the focus of his attendance. Zion is the oldest at his house, and as much as he loves his little brother, Zion needed a place to cultivate his social skills further and enjoy time with likeminded scholars. Bridges has become a social-emotional learning hub where Zion can complete his work with the assistance of tutors and teachers, and then unwind in conversations about sports and the endless creative possibilities of Minecraft Education. Most recently, we watched Zion and another scholar navigate differences and emotions in a restorative conversation that left both students feeling heard, seen, and valued.
"On Thursdays and Fridays, I get requests for early pick up from his school's after-school program, but Zion asks me not to pick him up until I absolutely have to when he is at Bridges. I have a hard time getting him to leave at the end of the day," explained his mom.
According to Zion, " Bridges After-school is fun. I get to do my homework with the other kids. The teachers and tutors are nice, and they take the time to talk to you and ask how you're feeling. I like that. Bridges offers a great selection of snacks and drinks. I like that I get to play with my new friend Solomon when we are done with all of our work. That's my favorite part."
Zion is a testament to Bridges meeting scholars where they are, to customize learning experiences that serve the whole child.
